Remedial and Sports Massage has a range of healing benefits, making it useful as a healing therapy.
Remedial massage is typically used to treat specific problems such as back and neck pain or headache. A typical treatment may include massage, mobilisations, tractions, rehabilitation exercises/stretches and a mixture of the techniques listed below.
Sports massage is geared towards amateur and professional sports people. Many athletes enjoy the benefits of pre and post event massage, which is helpful in speeding up recovery and dealing with problem areas. You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage.
Massage improves circulation to injured areas, improves lymphatic drainage to remove harmful waste products, stimulates healing, breaks down scar tissue, improves muscle tone and promotes relaxation.
Our massage therapist, Zivile, uses a range of techniques including joint mobilisation, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, transverse soft tissue release, deep tissue massage, pregnancy massage and lymphatic drainage. At Durham Family Chiropractic, massage is often used as a complimentary treatment to chiropractic, as part of a wider treatment plan or as a stand-alone treatment.
Please note that patients booking in for massage will need to bring their own towels; two large bath towels will be enough. Face coverings are also mandatory as per the Soft Tissue and Massage Association guidance.
